LIFE UPDATE

I haven't blogged for ages so here we go!

I finished my placement at Fantastica in December which was was a fantastic (haha) experience for me and I created 4 new pieces of work (and about 150 drafts) which will be printed onto clothing for the Spring/Summer collection, as soon as I get some images I'll be uploading!

I've been working on a piece for a competition for the last 4-5 weeks. The competition is run by the House of Illustration and Folio Society and the brief is to create 3 illustrations and a binding idea for 'The Outsider' by Albert Camus. I found it a bit of a challenge to really get into the project as I obviously don't have the tutorials and advice that I had at university! BUT I've been working hard and I'll give you a sneaky peek at some of my illustrations.

Nobrow DONE

Well, nothing new to show but I've submitted my 2 pieces for Nobrow's 'People I've never met and conversations I've never had' competition. I chose these 2:

A conversation I've never had

Continuing with the Nobrow competition I began thinking about a conversation I've never had. As my person I've never met is themed around pets I decided to continue this and created a piece about poodles. It's just meant to be fun really:

I developed my idea a bit more with some text, I didn't want it to seem as though I was saying I'd never met animals in my life. It might not need text but I think it adds the illustration quite nicely. Could make pretty cute posters really:

I developed my idea slightly and did some painting this morning. I just wanted to do the faces of all the possible pets I could (and should) have had over the years.

I need to develop things further but I'm pleased with the outcome so far.

Someone I've never met

I've found a competition by Nobrow which is looking for 2 images, one of a person you've never met and one of a conversation you've never had. So far I've been thinking of the fact that I've never had any pets, and this is my idea for the person I've never met. I did a rough little sketch (above) but I want to do something a lot better than that to send in. Not sure about this conversation though..
