The Mustard Tree

Last week I was asked to create a poster and recipe cards for the charity The Mustard Tree. The charity is based in Manchester and helps to support homeless or vulnerable people by providing food, clothing and training. I designed some posters to promote a new cooking class being held at The Mustard Tree which is aiming to provide basic cooking skills for free for anyone who needs them. The brief had to incorporate the charities colours (bright yellow and pink) and needed to include some sort of reference to the Mustard Tree and their logo. The designs are quite simple, there was quite a lot of text to fit in as well as a map so I didn't want to have too much fussy imagery. I stuck to just 3 colours and swapped them around to create 4 different colour designs and 4 recipe cards. Hopefully they'll be eye-catching enough to promote the classes.

Here are my 4 posters and recipe cards:

LIFE UPDATE

I haven't blogged for ages so here we go!

I finished my placement at Fantastica in December which was was a fantastic (haha) experience for me and I created 4 new pieces of work (and about 150 drafts) which will be printed onto clothing for the Spring/Summer collection, as soon as I get some images I'll be uploading!

I've been working on a piece for a competition for the last 4-5 weeks. The competition is run by the House of Illustration and Folio Society and the brief is to create 3 illustrations and a binding idea for 'The Outsider' by Albert Camus. I found it a bit of a challenge to really get into the project as I obviously don't have the tutorials and advice that I had at university! BUT I've been working hard and I'll give you a sneaky peek at some of my illustrations.

OWT 'Reflections' + update

I have updated my website with the new work that I produced for OWT Creative's zine 'Reflections' which is on sale now: http://owtcreative.bigcartel.com/product/owt-2-reflections

The zine features work by the OWT team plus various contributors and is only £5 so it's well worth the money!

Also I'm currently doing an internship for Fantastica, a wonderful independent clothing brand from London: http://www.fantasticalondon.com I'm working hard on lots of drawings for them for the future so look out for those!

Playing around

Today I've been playing around with backgrounds for my cardboard city just using Photoshops various techniques. I really like the results but I think they look best smaller as there are some really raw edges on the cardboard but that could add some homemade charm. Anyway here they are:

Streets and Houses continued..

I've been playing around with printing the house drawings and arranging them in a 3D format to photograph but I still don't have a camera so I can't show that yet but I've been experimenting with the back of the houses as I mounted them onto cardboard and I decided to use that side as well. I painted windows in black to make really simple houses and scanned and arranged:

I love the different tones and shades created by the cardboard, it creates a really nice new setting for some work.

interesting find

I found these while I was looking through my computery files:

They're all a3 but the white on white is hiding that. The cat is my neighbourhood friend Trouble who sadly moved away last year but I took these photos and placed her in my versions of her favourite places around my house/garden. Not sure what I think of them, I quite like them but I'd like to print and add to them.
